
Let’s Talk Halogen Infrared Heating
If you need a massive amount of heat, fast, our halogen infrared lamps are the way to go. Most heaters just get warm and stay there. Ours are different. We use a tungsten filament tucked inside a quartz envelope filled with halogen gas. The chemistry here is the secret sauce—it keeps the filament from wearing thin too quickly. This means we can crank up the temperature and get way more radiant heat out of the lamp than a standard heater ever could. The Power Stuff Depending on how much heat you’re trying to push, you’ll see these coming in different voltages and wattages. If you’re running a fast production line, you’ll want those high-wattage tubes. They ramp up almost instantly. But here’s the thing: if you’re wiring up high-voltage tubes, double-check your controllers. The inrush current can be a beast. A high-density emitter puts a lot of pressure on your power supply, so make sure your wiring and contactors are up to the task. Otherwise, you’re just asking for a burnout. Quartz and Connectors We use quartz glass because it doesn’t freak out when the temperature swings wildly. Plus, we can coat the glass to shift the heat spectrum. It’s a great trick if you need to hit a specific material without melting your entire machine chassis. As for the setup, we stick to standard connectors like R7s or Sk15. Why? Because when a tube eventually gives out, you want to just pop a new one in and get back to work. No one wants to spend half their shift fighting with a custom fitting. The Reality of Using Them You’ll see these all over PET blowing and plastic curing because they hit the target surface the second you flip the switch. You get a tiny footprint but a huge amount of power. But there’s a catch. Quartz is fragile. Seriously—one greasy fingerprint or a tiny splash of oil on the glass creates a hot spot. And a hot spot will crack your tube. Keep them clean. And for heaven’s sake, make sure your mounting brackets aren’t squeezing the glass. Give it some breathing room, or it’ll snap.
